AT&T is the world's largest telecommunications company. The corporation's shares are traded on the stock exchange under the ticker NYSE:T. The quotes of this asset in recent years are not distinguished by increased volatility, which makes it a fairly reliable investment. Whether it is profitable to invest in AT&T stock you will know after getting acquainted with the corporation's financial indicators and analysts' forecasts.
AT&T is an American multinational conglomerate holding company headquartered in Whitacre Tower in downtown Dallas, Texas. AT&T Inc. is considered one of the world's largest providers of mobile and fixed-line telephone services in the United States through AT&T Communications. In 2018, the telecommunications giant ranked 9th in the Fortune 500 list of the largest U.S. corporations by total revenue.
In 2015, AT&T acquired DirecTV for $48.5 billion, or $67.1 billion including assumed debt, the largest acquisition in AT&T history. The company also announced a plan to split into two publicly traded companies, one focused on AT&T's traditional phone and Internet services and the other on its cell phone and DirecTV business. The separation was completed on April 30, 2018.
The corporation began as Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, a subsidiary of American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T), nicknamed "Ma Bell." In 2005, AT&T Inc. acquired BellSouth, which included the former Baby Bell AT&T Southeast, and was renamed AT&T Corp. The current AT&T operates in several areas:
AT&T is the world's largest broadband service company, the largest cell phone company and the largest phone company in the United States. The corporation serves more than 230 million households and businesses in the United States.
AT&T stock has been extremely volatile this year. In April, the company spun off its big entertainment asset into a separate entity called WarnerMedia to focus more on its core telecom business and reduce its debt -- but that didn't stop the stock from falling soon after, because investors were scared of what would happen if two major sources were generating less revenue than before.
The telecommunications company AT&T reported earnings on Oct. 20. Despite the negative sentiment that has surrounded them for most of this year, they beat earnings expectations and raised their outlook for next season. As a consequence, AT&T stock is up 18% in October 2022.
AT&T had total revenue of $30 billion in the third quarter of 2022, down 4% from last year. Adjusted earnings per share (non-GAAP) were 68 cents, exceeding expectations by 0.7%. AT&T's good cash flow will help fund a 6% dividend and reduce $131 billion in debt.
The number of postpaid phone subscribers at America's most profitable telecommunications company grew by 708,000 for the year. That's despite only 1% growth in consumer broadband. New fiber-optic offerings are probably more expensive than older connections, and perhaps that explains almost all of the 30 percent growth in that category.
At the time of the technical forecast, November 21, 2022, AT&T's stock price was at $18. The data from the analysis showed that the company is not one of the corporations with a high rate of price growth. Over the course of 2023-2025, AT&T's stock price will likely fluctuate in the $18-22 range. In the absence of important news from the telecom giant, quotes are unlikely to exceed the $25 mark for the next 2-3 years
